I regularly partcipate to *game jams*. A game jam is an event where participants have to create a game during a very short period of time. There is usually a theme or a particular constraint imposed to stimulate the creativity.
Nowadays I mostly participate to the Ludum Dare in the Compo category, where you have to finish your game under 48 hours while making everything by yourself.
